about
Versatile and original, Equinox are a group of like-minded saxophonists who each contribute to the unique sound and repertoire of the group. From early music, through classical transcriptions, contemporary works, folk and jazz, Equinox present the saxophone as chameleon-like instrument capable of taking on many personalities. The blend of sound is unique and compelling, and great emphasis is placed on presentation and making programmes accessible and enjoyable for a wide audience.
members
Equinox members are all accomplished players with an interest in exploring the possibilities the saxophone can offer. Director Alistair Parnell is a leading proponent of the instrument with an international reputation, and a special interest in electronic wind instruments which are also occasionally featured in the lineup. See Biographies for profiles of Equinox members.
repertoire
There is a huge range of material that lends itself to playing by a group of saxophones. The range of sizes and timbres of the various instruments lends itself to everything from renaissance arrangements to contemporary works written especially for this lineup.
Equinox concerts are varied and exciting – and entertaining for the audience. Depending on the event, the group can present anything from a lively jazz number such as Van Morrison’s Moondance, or a Count Basie Tribute, to refined classical repertoire such as Grieg’s Holberg Suite or Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition.
