Equinox recently had the privilege of being invited to join the National Saxophone Choir (NSC) for a rehearsal.  The NSC is directed by Nigel Wood and has a growing following for their energetic and virtuosic performances - you may have seen them recently on television when they featured in the BBC's 'Play It Again' series.  They have performed twice at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and earlier this year went to China for a concert  tour, where they had a rapturous reception - Chinese audiences had seen nothing like it!

Alistair Parnell was invited to direct the rehearsal, and Equinox members joined the choir for part of the afternoon.  Alistair ran a workshop session for the players and conducted the combined group.  As well as rehearsing their normal repertoire, the group played through a brand new piece ('Partial Eclipse'), commissioned by Equinox and composed by Nigel Wood, which features the EWI accompanied by sax ensemble.  This was an exciting moment for Equinox, as it was the first time we had heard the piece, which we will feature in concerts later this year.  Watch this space for further details!

The National Sax Choir made us very welcome for the afternoon and we hope this will be an association which will continue.

Is it a bird, is it a plane?  No, it's an EWI!
