Concert report: Holymoorside Festival

(June 24, 2007)
The Holymoorside and Walton Arts Festival near Chesterfield has become a regular fixture on the calendar, with a wide range of events and concerts happening over the course of three days.

Equinox performed as part of the 'Midsummer Music' concert on Saturday 23rd June at the St John's Church Centre.  Equinox shared the programme with the piano and flute duo of Sophie Hodgson and Katy Strudwick, and the Hallam String Quartet, so the audience were treated to a great variety of styles and sounds.

Katy and Sophie showed their versatility with a mixture of flute and piano pieces and piano duets, whilst the Hallam String Quartet presented a delightful selection of light classical pieces.

The Equinox programme included Alun Cook's Boris Goes to Dublin, arranged specially for Equinox and featuring Daniel Christian on alto sax. Daniel lives in Chesterfield so was pleased to perform on his home patch.  The second half continued the celtic theme; as well as Gavin Whitlock's Celtic Suite, flautist Katy Strudwick joined Equinox for Richard Ingham's 'Mrs Malcolm', which also featured Alistair Parnell on blistering form on soprano saxophone.

The audience reaction to Equinox was extremely enthusiastic - many had not heard a combination of saxes in this format and enjoyed the experience!

"I've never heard anything like it!"
"Absolutely brilliant"
"You were extremely professional and sounded fantastic - thank you"
