Featuring
and
Christian Forshaw on saxophone, with the glorious soprano voice of Natalie Clifton-Griffith

The concert will feature Christian Forshaw's Brit-nominated Sanctuary material, reworked for saxophone ensemble.

Described as “simply glorious” by Classic FM, Sanctuary takes its inspiration from church music with original works by Forshaw alongside his arrangements of traditional hymns.

Equinox will also perform music by Bill Whelan, Karl Jenkins, J S Bach and Percy Grainger.

This is a unique collaboration and promises to be a unforgettable evening of saxophone music.

Performer Profiles:

Christian Forshaw is a saxophonist and composer whose career to date reflects the qualities required of a musician in the 21st Century. Long gone are the days where a musician spends an entire career working within the same boundaries and increasingly musicians find their work transcending genre after genre.  Audiences have found a powerful connection with Forshaw's compositions and performances, and reactions to both Sanctuary and Renouncement have been profound from both the traditional classical establishment (BBC Radio 3 etc.) through to more commercial stations such as BBC Radio 2 and Classic FM. Live performances have left audiences spellbound and moved by the power and intimacy of the music.

Christian is currently working on a further album using the Sanctuary forces.

Natalie Clifton-Griffith (soprano), graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 1996 with a First Class Bachelor of Music Honours Degree and was also awarded the B.Mus. Graduates’ Year Prize, and last year was made an Honorary Member.. She completed her training at the Royal College of Music with Elizabeth Robson. During this period she won the 1998 Bach-Handel Prize, was awarded Second Prize at the 1998 Great Elm Vocal Awards and was a finalist in the 1997 Lies Askonas Competition. Following her success as a prize-winner at the first London Handel Society Competition in 2002, Natalie is gaining a reputation for her performances of the Baroque and Classical repertoire.

As well as her many recital and operatic performances, Natalie Clifton-Griffith has had a long and close association with Ex Cathedra, with whom she has performed and recorded, most notably in de Lalande’s Dies Irae at the BBC Proms. She has also worked with many leading ensembles and orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Birmingham Bach Choir and I Fagiolini.
